Principal Deputy Director of DOE’s Office of Nuclear
Energy, Science and Technology Gail Marcus began the opening plenary
session with an overview of the DOE’s nuclear program, including its
International Nuclear Energy Research Initiative, which has funded 90
research projects since 1999. Through the DOE, the United States
participates in the Generation IV International Forum, a group of ten
nations that cooperate on generation IV reactor research. The DOE also
sponsors domestic and international nuclear education and training
programs and a nuclear medicine and science program.
