Flávio Decat de Moura, President of Brazil’s ELETRONUCLEAR, told the opening session that nuclear energy is “more important than ever,” particularly since the Johannesburg conference articulated the need to keep all options open—including nuclear—in the pursuit of sustainable, non–greenhouse-gas-producing energy sources. However, de Maura said, the revival of the nuclear option depends on new-generation plants with a higher level of safety and security. |
