Since 9/11, Diaz said, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has
issued 14 security-related orders to U.S. nuclear facilities, mandating
additional security personnel; more restricted site access; increased
searches and surveillance; better security of land, water, and air
approaches to facilities; and enhanced coordination with law enforcement
and military authorities. Preparations have included mock terrorist
attacks and detailed engineering studies to determine plant
vulnerabilities to aircraft attacks. |
